The Byrne Gallery in Middleburg presents “Shenandoah Summer” in celebration of the return of verdant pastures and fields to our local Virginia landscape. Oil on canvas paintings by renowned Virginia painter Gerald Hennesy and newcomer to the Gallery, Katie Flack, will feature iconic views of the Shenandoah valley, historic gardens, majestic scenes of the Blue Ridge mountains and wildlife on Goose Creek.
There will be a special reception on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and a Gallery Talk on Sunday June 23d from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. All are invited to attend. The show will begin on June 1st and continue through June 30th, 2024.
Our beloved artist Gerald Hennesy passed away two years ago in March 2022 at the wonderful age of 100 years young. We miss him dearly. He was a WWII hero and true patriot. Gerry was buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. During WWII, Gerry flew some of the most dangerous missions in the Pacific Theater. He flew the Corsair bomber-fighter off the deck of the USS Yorktown, under the command of Admiral William “Bull” Halsey.
Over his long career, Gerry’s work has been exhibited widely in commercial and museum galleries including the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Georgia Museum of Art, The Corcoran Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Museum. His paintings are in numerous private, corporate and public collections, including the U. S. House of Representatives, the State Department, the Maryland State Mansion, the DAR Headquarters, and the American Legion Headquarters. He is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Art.
Now, this month of June, we are introducing artist Katie Flack to the Gallery. She has been painting plein air landscapes for 10 years. Katie Flack's evocative work captures the fleeting moments of light and life across the landscape. Her colorful palette and richly painted scenes invite the viewer to experience the moments of natural wonder. A worldwide traveler, she keeps her paints nearby to capture sights that enchant her.
Katie studied fine art at Clemson University and was introduced to plein air painting during a NYC workshop. She has participated in nationwide plein air events and has received awards including Best New Plein Air Artist 2022. She was juried into the Carmel Arts Festival Competition and is a member of the American Impressionist Society, American Women Artists, and The Art League.
We will pleased to welcome you for a visit during the month of June!
