The Byrne Gallery in Middleburg, Virginia is pleased to announce its show for September 2023, “Indian Summer”. The exhibition will celebrate the last brilliant colors of summer with a selection of oil-on-canvas paintings by local artist Lida Matheson Stifel in her first one-woman show at The Byrne Gallery. On display Sept. 1st-30th with a special reception on Sept. 9 4-7pm.
ARTIST TALKS FOR “INDIAN SUMMER” WITH LIDA STIFEL: Sunday Sept. 17th, 2-5 & Thursday, Sept. 28th 4-6.
Stifel’s paintings in the show will include both landscape and still life styles. The title “Indian Summer” refers to the drawn-out last hurrah of summer as the season fades into fall, which Stifel captures masterfully with her plein air technique.
Lida Matheson Stifel attended The Corcoran School of Art studying with William Christianberry. Since then, she has exhibited her works across the U.S. for over 40 years. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, she strives to imbue her pieces with an aura of energy and spontaneity. Her small farm in Montgomery, Maryland provides her with the opportunity to capture scenes ranging from sweeping country landscapes to the smallest and most charming details of rural life. As a plein air painter, Stifel prefers to work directly from her subject in order to achieve a sense of immediacy, immortalizing the fleeting moment in time to which she is the only witness. Stifel has been selected to participate in over 30 juried exhibitions and is a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters, and Oil Painters of America.
The Byrne Gallery is located at 7 West Washington Street, Middleburg, V.A.
